What is the time zone of Mongolia?

Mongolia has two time zones. The country is not observing daylight savings so the clock is the same all year round.

  • Hovd Time (HOVT):+7:00 UTC (ahead)
  • Ulaanbaatar Time (ULAT):+8:00 UTC (ahead) ,  same as Choibalsan Time (CHOT)

These are the times differences if you travel outside of Mongolia.

To China:

  • Crossing the border from the Mongolian province Hovd

You will the time difference will be +1 hour (ahead).

  • Crossing the border from all other Mongolian provinces

There is no time difference

To Russia:

  • When crossing the northern border from the western divisions of West Kazakhstan and Aqtobe there is no time difference
  • When crossing the border from Bulgan, Selenge provinces there is no time difference
  • When crossing the border from Hentiy, Dornod provinces the time difference is -1 hour (behind)
  • When crossing the eastern border in Hovsgol province the time difference is +1 hour (ahead), when crossing via the northern border there is no time difference
