What is the time zone of Portugal?
Portugal is in the Western European Time zone. All places including the capital Lisbon have the same time, there are no exceptions. The country is observing daylight savings so there are two different clocks depending on the time of the year.
- Western European Time (WET):0:00 UTC
- Western European Summer Time (WEST): +1:00 UTC (ahead)
Travel to neighboring countries
These are the times differences if you travel outside the country.
To Portuguese Azores: When travelling to the Portuguese Azores you will enter the Azores time zone which is -1 hour (behind)
To Portuguese Madeira: There is no time difference as you remain in the same time zone all year round
To Spain: When travelling to the Spain you will enter the Central European time zone which is +1 hour (ahead)
Portugal Daylight Savings Time (DST)
It starts on the last Sunday in March and ends on the last Sunday in October. In March the clock is moved forward from 02.00 am to 03.00 am (so you will lose an hour of sleep during the night). While in October it’s reversed as the clock is moved backward from 03.00 am to 02.00 am and you will gain an extra hour of sleep. One way of remembering the movement sequence is that clocks “spring forward and fall back”.
