What is the time zone of Iran?
Iran is in the Iran Time zone. All places including the capital Tehran have the same time, there are no exceptions. The country does observe daylight savings so there are two different clocks depending on the time of the year. The standard time is based on the solar time at 52.5° east longitude which also reflects the start of the year in the Persian Solar Hirji calendar.
- Iran Standard Time (IRST): +3:30 UTC (ahead)
- Iran Daylight Time (IRDT): +4:30 UTC (ahead)

Iran Daylight Savings Time (DST)
It starts on the first month of the Persian Solar Hirji calendar (1 Farvardin) and ends on the sixth month (30 Shahrivar). This corresponds to respectively 22nd or 23th March till 21st or 22nd September. In March the clock is moved forward from 00.00 am to 01.00 am (so you will lose an hour of sleep during the night). While in September it’s reversed as the clock is moved backward from 00.00 am to 23.00 am and you will gain an extra hour of sleep. One way of remembering the movement sequence is that clocks “spring forward and fall back”.
